Floor Plan- Sample 2

I still haven't found a kitchen floor plan to refer to...so I guess I will have to design my own without any kitchen plan reference (I will try to use the other floor plans)

While still thinking about other objects I could include in my kitchen, I have decided to look a t different blue prints/Floor plans.

Domino effect- Kitchen Theme

For my domino effect project I have decided to pick kitchen as my theme. My first task is to make a list of objects that could be found in a kitchen. (then I will look at some references>images).

I had to save this image in TIFF format (For printing) with a resolution of 300 DPI(Enhance the colour and the pixels, good for glossy paper) and in JPEG format (For web upload) with a resolution of 72 DPI (Easier and faster to upload and/or download).I also had to change the color mode for the Tiff file to CMYK, better for a printing process.

PERSONAL PHOTOSHOP EXPERIMENTATION

Finally the montage background, the original image was way too light and had a logo on it on the bottom right side.

So I basically had to crop the image and darken it by messing with the adjusments (Contrast, saturation, light...etc)

Croissants and Forks

For the two croissants I simply used the magnetic tool since teh edgs are roun and soft enough, and the background is light and plain, it doesn't get mixed with the croissant.


♥ For the second croissant, the one under the croissant on top, I simply rotated it and added a distort effect to it to make it look somehow flatter (To make it look like it's really on the plate).



FORKS
To select the knife I first used the magnetic tool, then after pasting it on the montage, I looked very closely and realized that it ad somehow selected the white edges as well, so I tried to clean the white edges using the eraser tool, it didn't come out as expected, it gave the knife edges a wobbly look.
My resort was to use the polygonal tool to selected the white and wobbly edges ando delete them.

Same procedure was foolowed for the fork. (This time around I didn't use the magnetic tool but only the polygonal lasso tool, the edges wheretoo sharp to use the magnetic tool).

Fried eggs

Magnetic tool- sure this egg is not round round (in a soft kind of way), but it's somehow round and you expect it to blend in the background, (and your conclusion the magnetic tool should not be used) but thank goodness it has an inner shadow applied to it, a shadow that seperates it from the background, that's why I was able to use the magnetic tool this time around.

Tomato

Same technique used for the bacon pieces, simply had to select the cut tomato in quick mask mode (Again my first idea was to use the magnetic tool but it kept on selecting the tomato shadow, giving it a weird angle look instead of a round one =)-same problem happened with the napkin, the shadow has greyish reddish colour that is too close to the tomato to be selected with the magnetic tool)

The bacon

This was the hardest object to select because of the different shapes of the edges (Zigzag like and no consistency).
To select this object, I had to use the quick masking tool, After using this tool I actually had to save the selection, in order to load it again (In case I need to clean up the edges of the bacon a little bit more).

(The first idea that jumped to my mind was to use the magnetic tool again, because the edges were round, and the background light but I realized that I didn't want to select the whole bacon, and all the pieces seem connected at some point, so the solution was to select the pieces I wanted in quick mask mode and to leave the bits I didn't want out using the same method- Just had to invert the foreground and background colors Black and white).

Black for background and white for foreground.

The napkin

For the napkin I simply used the polygonal lasso tool because of the sharp edges. (I was very tempted to use the magnetic tool, but this tool is much better round and soft edges rather than sharp ones).

I did experiment with the magnetic tool though, but it selected the dark shadow surrounding the napkin and a bit of the grey background because it is slightly similar to the colour of the napkin itself.

The plate

This was the easiest object to select, because the background is light and the plate is surrounded by a round dark stroke (Which seperates the plate from teh background) the best tool to choose was the Magnetic Tool.

So this is the tool I chose for this image. (MAGNETIC TOOL)

the glass of water

For this glass the first thing I did was try select it with the magnetic tool which was a big mistake since the background is blending in with the glass itself, they share the same colour, (Select the roundness of the top part of the glass was fine, when I started getting closer to the bottom of the page, more precisely the right side of the image where it's darker, I started loosing control of the tool...)

★ So I learnt a new thing, the magnetic tool is very useful to select round objects but on a light background- or it is useful when the object to be selected doesn't have the same colour as the background

Instead of using the magnetic tool I opted for another solution, the circle marquee tool, I used its round shape to select the glass (The same size as the glass), then I copied and pasted on the other file, then reduced the opacity to give it a feeling of transparency ( So that it would look like it is really on a wooden table).

For the montage I want to make, I have chozen a common theme: Lunch
So here are the different images that I picked. (They have all been picked for their different backgrounds, shapes and colour).

Learning Photoshop and illustrator

This tuesday we were given a quick photoshop and illustrator tutorial. We were taught how to use the marquee tool, the quick masking tool and the select tool, also we were taught how to save and load a selection. (So it was all about selecting). In illustrator we were taught how to create shapes using different techniques.

We were also taught about image formats (Web based images: JPEG, GIF and PNG)-(Print based images: Tiff, EPS and PSD) and resolution from 72 (Web images) to 300 (Print) DPI.

We were also taught about RGB- Red,Green and Blue and also CMYK- Cyan,Magenta,Yellow and Knock out (Or Black)

We were given a small task to do:
The aim for this task is to create a little montage using all that has been learnt during the tutorial.
